Program Guide

Pacific Quest offers a unique approach to wilderness therapy by replacing hiking and survival skills with work on our organic farm and sustainable life skills. Our approach is based on structure, support and choice as opposed to coercion or punitive consequences; it allows for students to grow individually, at their own pace, with their own motivations.

Position Summary
Pacific Quest facilitates an environment for teens and young adults to recognize a desire for change. In addition to working with a counseling and treatment team to achieve weekly outcomes, a typical day consists of working the land, role modeling, teaching and helping facilitate learning about permaculture, sustainability, basic living skills and Hawaiian life. The students go on day-outings once a week. The staff team consists of 3 Program Guides: 1-2 Leads, a Wellness Guide, a Support Instructor and/or an Apprentice. Each staff member will work eight-days on, six-days off from Thursday to Thursday. Compensation includes an hourly wage as well as room and board for our adolescent program during the working period (on your week off, accommodations are not provided). We desire individuals with degrees in psychology, farming or outdoor education. Required Qualifications

  • Direct experience working with youth.
  • Desire to garden, farm, and use experiential education as a tool for growth.
  • 21 years or older
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification
  • Valid Driver’s license with clean record -Able to pass Background Check
  • Able to pass Drug Test upon arrival

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Psychology, Farming/Agroecology or Outdoor Education/Leadership, or a minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
  • Specific experience with “at-risk” youth or within wilderness therapy.

Experienced Therapist

Pacific Quest is an outdoor therapeutic program for struggling teens and young adults, located on the Big Island of Hawaii. Pacific Quest offers a clinical, yet holistic approach to treatment, moving beyond traditional wilderness therapy and teaching sustainable life skills. Pacific Quest’s proprietary therapeutic model is a groundbreaking approach that utilizes Horticulture Therapy to create concrete metaphors for its students as they cultivate their own health and happiness.

Demand for the Pacific Quest experience is growing. As a result, Pacific Quest is currently seeking highly experienced, licensed doctoral (preferred) or master’s level therapist to join our professional clinical team. This is a full-time, salaried position, which includes a highly competitive salary (negotiable), benefits package and attractive incentives.

Position Description:

Therapist will work closely with professional clinical team and experienced program staff to provide exceptional individualized treatment for clients (adolescent and/or young adults) in an outdoor setting.
Tasks include clinical treatment planning, individual, group, and family therapy; clinical documentation, discharge planning and follow-up.

Provide clear, consistent, quality communication to families, Educational Consultants and Professionals on a weekly basis.
Marketing including presenting at national workshops and attending national therapeutic and educational conferences.


  • Eligible candidates for this position must hold a Ph.D. or Master’s degree in a behavioral health-related field. This includes graduate degrees in Psychology, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy or Social Work. All clinicians must have current licensure within their field and be eligible for licensure in Hawaii.
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience (preferred) working with adolescents and/or young adults in a wilderness or therapeutic residential setting.
  • Ability to develop and coordinate individual treatment plans and therapy and case management.
  • Proven track record, strong reputation and communication skills, highly skilled at working with parents, and a variety of professionals and referral sources.
  • Must be highly organized, able to multi-task, professional, self-motivated, responsible and able to work well with others.
  • Applicants must pass a drug-screen and background check.
